Message to Students
My research examines how interstate issues in the history of international relations are shaped not only by governments but also by civil society, public opinion, the media, and identity. I encourage students to routinely adopt different analytical perspectives in their studies, as examining cases of interest from both Japanese and non-Japanese viewpoints reveals the plausibility of multiple interpretations. My primary focus is East Asia, particularly Japan–Korea relations, but I remain open to learning about other regions together.
